Why Won’t My Laptop Turn On

Reconnect the power cord, wait thirty seconds, and then power up the computer. If your laptop powers on, remove the battery and replace it. Reinstalling the battery may not get the laptop up and running, so you’ll need to buy a new one. Having a laptop that won’t boot up can be a nightmare. There are several possible reasons why a laptop won’t turn on. Laptop screen, battery, and power adapter issues are among the most common causes of laptop malfunctions.

You should start with the most likely and easiest-to-fix causes of a laptop not turning on and work up to the more challenging ones.

Change the power supply if necessary. This may seem obvious sense, but make sure you haven’t connected your laptop to the wrong power supply. The majority of laptop AC adapters are the same in appearance. Your laptop won’t work if the adapter doesn’t provide the appropriate voltage and amperage.

In other words, if your laptop’s power light is on, the power source is likely operating. An issue with the laptop’s battery may be indicated if both the laptop’s light turns and the adapter’s power light are on.

A USB stick or DVD could create starting issues if you’ve used them to launch your laptop and then forgot about them. Leave all docking stations behind. When you try to start your laptop with a docking station with a malfunctioning power port or power supply, problems can occur.

The power adapter must be connected directly to the laptop, not the docking station. The docking station must be replaced if your laptop is able to start. Be on the lookout for any beeps. A sequence of beeps may be heard if a laptop motherboard component fails. You may tell which component has failed by counting the number of beeps. Attempt a hard reboot. If your laptop unexpectedly shut down while you were using it, this could be because an electric shock prompted the motherboard’s safety mechanism to disconnect power. This is done to prevent overheating of delicate components.
